There is the theory among some that colon cleanse products are doing more harm than good.  There is always some controversy about every product, every touted health food, everything, and there should be.  I mean if we don’t question it, we don’t do further studies to either back the other ones up or deny them, we do not actually help ourselves by doing case studies, we do not explore the possibilities of side effects, we don’t do a lot of things. 

But this being said, at least one health expert has said that “the lungs, kidney, liver, gastrointestinal tract, and immune system are effective in removing our neutralizing toxic substances on their own.”  Well I would say that they can up to a point.  With the way our bodies slow down and break down as we age, they don’t have the same protecting capabilities as say when we were 5 or even 10 years old. 

There are some who are just diuretics, and without question, those are actually extremely harmful and detrimental to the body.  But on the other hand, they say that just fasting one day a month and drinking more water can help you to “cleanse” your body, and that comes also from public health officials.  So apparently the body isn’t doing it all on its own.  There are good cleanses out there.  It’s just a matter of being careful about which ones you choose, because if you choose the wrong ones, I would have to agree that frankly speaking, the wrong ones could do more harm than good.
